Inter-agency Working Group on Reproductive Health in Crises Middle East/North Africa Regional Working Group Meeting

meetingOne of the working groups of the Inter-agency Working Group (IAWG) on Reproductive Health in Crises, the Middle East North Africa (MENA) Regional Working Group, held its first meeting in Cairo, from 26-28 July 2009. Fifteen participants representing eight countries and six agencies discussed the terms of reference for the working group and identified priority actions. Some of the major themes included increasing access to reproductive health services for urban refugee populations; increasing access to clinical care and counseling for survivors of sexual assault; integrating reproductive health in disaster risk/management strategies; and coping with overburdened health systems. The need for advocacy to promote reproductive health on the Ministry of Health agendas and the compatibility of Interagency emergency kits for reproductive health in the regional context, were also discussed.
