1. The Reproductive Health Assessment (RHA) Toolkit for Conflict-Affected Women Training
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in collaboration with the United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA) will hold a two-day training opportunity on how to implement the Reproductive Health Assessment (RHA) Toolkit for Conflict-Affected Women. Click here to download a flyer for this training.
Location: Hotel V Centenario Intercontinental, Santo Domingo
Date: 27-28 May 2010

The training is designed for those responsible for assessing health needs, monitoring, evaluation, and programming in their sites. The training will be conducted in English.
Registration: Registration is required and limited to 25 people. To register, please contact Stacy De Jesus at sdejesus@cdc.gov. Attendance at the IAWG meeting is not required to participate in the training. The training is free, but participants are responsible for all travel related costs. The deadline to register is May 23, 2010.

2. Clinical Care for Sexual Assault Survivors:
A Multimedia Training to Improve Delivery of Compassionate and Confidential Care
The International Rescue Committee will hold a two-day training on Clinical Care for Sexual Assault Survivors immediately following the 2010 IAWG meeting in Santo Domingo. Using a multimedia training DVD, skilled facilitators will lead sessions designed to improve competent and compassionate care of sexual assault survivors in resource limited and emergency settings. Click here for more information about the CCSAS training tool, and here to download a flyer for this training.
Who should participate?
This training is intended for all clinic workers who interact with sexual assault survivors, with a separate section specifically for non-medical staff. It strives to equip providers at all levels—from administrators to physicians—with the skills to provide compassionate, competent and confidential care.
Why is this training different?
The training is delivered in a group setting with facilitators guiding participants through material and directing discussions and group participation as appropriate. Multiple teaching methods are used to reinforce the messages, including:
· Case studies
· Group exercises
· Video re-enactments
· Service providers offering first hand perspectives on working with sexual assault survivors in emergency settings.
Participants will gain knowledge and skills in the following areas:
· What Every Clinic Worker Needs to Know: covering the global burden of sexual assault, how cultural beliefs affect sexual assault survivors, common myths regarding sexual assault and universal human rights of survivors.
· Responsibilities of Non-Medical Staff: aimed at non-clinical staff such as receptionists, cleaning staff, drivers, security personnel and logisticians.
· Direct Patient Care: covers topics such as receiving a sexual assault survivor; taking the patient’s history; performing a physical exam; providing treatment, disease prevention, and follow-up care; and caring for child and male survivors
· Preparing Your Clinic: addresses the following subjects: assessing your clinic’s resources, organizing staff and materials needed to care for survivors, and mapping referral networks.
· Forensic Examination: provides an introduction to forensic evidence collection, how to incorporate it into patient care, and specific information on collecting and storing samples.

3. The first ever training on the ASRH Toolkit for Humanitarian Settings
Be the Champions for Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Heath in Emergencies!

UNFPA and Save the Children USA are very pleased to announce the first training on the recently-published Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) Toolkit for Humanitarian Settings. Click here to download a flyer for this training.
Location: Hotel V Centenario Intercontinental, Santo Domingo
Date: 27 May
Time: 8.30am-5.30pm
Why this toolkit? Adolescents, 10-19 year old, represent a large portion of the populations affected by crises. The ASRH toolkit was developed to help humanitarian programme managers and healthcare providers meet the sexual and reproductive health needs of adolescents when an emergency strikes. It is a companion to the Inter-Agency Field Manual on Reproductive Health in Humanitarian Settings, to ensure that service providers and programme managers have the right resources to make programmes acceptable, accessible and appropriate for adolescents in emergency situations.
Training description: The training will be conducted in English and will include lecture, interactive discussions and group exercises.
PLEASE JOIN US! By the end of this training you will be able to…
-
Describe how emergency situations affect the sexual and reproductive health needs of adolescents;
-
Identify the appropriate tools in the ASRH Toolkit and adapt them to suit the particular needs of a humanitarian situation;
-
Use the tools in the Toolkit and instruct others in their use;
-
Evaluate and adapt existing programs and tools to ensure that they are responsive to the SRH needs of adolescents
