About The Training Partnership
As the frequency and intensity of crises and their related RH needs continue to increase, demand for training has also increased. The IAWG partners address this demand through the development of relevant training modules and conducting workshops and trainings.
Many training institutes and universities from crisis-prone countries are mandated to provide RH training, conduct research and often, to provide community support. They thus share a common framework with the IAWG.
In order to better share information on RH training, benefit from each other’s comparative advantage and coordinate training activities between these training institutes and IAWG members, the ‘IAWG Training Partnership (TP) for Reproductive Health in Crises’ was formed in 2006. The IAWG-TP is one of the IAWG’s sub-working groups and it is linked to other IAWG sub-working groups, like the working group on the Minimum Initial Services Package (MISP) for RH and the New Technologies working group.
The IAWG-TP strategy focuses on a non-vertical approach to capacity building, including South-South partnership and cooperation, thus ensuring effectiveness and sustainability of capacity building efforts. The IAWG-TP’s implementation strategy emphasizes:
- Regional and national ownership, which is in line with the principles of the Paris Declaration on aid effectiveness. States and local stakeholders will be enabled to exercise leadership over their development strategies and coordinate actions to mainstream reproductive health into their emergency preparedness plans and responses.
- The involvement of beneficiaries in humanitarian response and the strengthening of country capacities to prepare for mitigate and respond to humanitarian crises, as put forward by the Good Humanitarian Donorship Initiative.
